Dr. J Zhuping Sheng


Dr. Zhuping Sheng is a professor at Morgan State University with 40 years of experience in water

resources engineering and geomechanics. He is a registered Professional Engineer, a certified

Professional Hydrologist, and a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Dr. Sheng

leads research on hydrological processes, aquifer mechanics, and sustainable water resources

management, with a focus on integrated water resources management and geohazard mitigation. His

work includes interdisciplinary research on managed aquifer recharge, aquifer sustainability, and

advanced numerical modeling of flow and solute transport.


Dr. Sheng has held leadership roles in professional societies such as ASCE, AWRA, and AIH, where he

has chaired committees and organized conferences. Before joining Morgan State University, he worked

at Texas A&M University, El Paso Water Utilities, the Nevada Bureau of Mines, and the Chinese

Academy of Sciences. He holds a Doctorate from the University of Nevada, Reno, and an M.Sci. from the

University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and a B.Eng. from Tongji University, Shanghai.


His research interests include hydrological processes, geohazard assessment and mitigation, and

innovative approaches to integrated water resources management and sustainable development.
