What:
John Englander is an oceanographer, multi-book author, and international speaker on climate change and Sea Level Rise (SLR). Located in Boca Raton, FL, John frequently travels for both science and business.
Multiple expeditions to Greenland and Antarctica have showed John, first hand, the devastating effects of melting ice on land reaching the sea. These expeditions, coupled with his broad science background in both oceanography and geology give him a unique perspective on planet ecology.
And the grave dangers we face from climate change, severe weather events, and unstoppable sea level rise.

April Meeting
Who:
Dave Guignet of MDE
What:
Dave will discuss the data development and handling behind the Digital Flood Insurance Rate Map (DFIRM) production in Maryland, and the data download tool available for floodplain models currently available in 18 counties in Maryland; and give an update on the 5 counties in production that will complete all the DFIRM mapping projects underway in Maryland.
Dave will also briefly discuss the Coast Smart - Climate Ready Action Boundary (CS-CRAB), a 100-year plus 3 feet floodplain GIS layer available in Maryland's Coastal Areas.
State Agencies and communities requesting State funding within the CRAB limits must now follow this higher standard in this area to promote resilience.
One highlight of the CRAB application is a demo of the Statewide Digital Elevation Models (DEM's) and a profile viewer.
The websites used in this discussions will be https//mdfloodmaps.net and https://mdfloodmaps.net/CRAB

January Meeting
Who:
Stuart S. Schwartz - Senior Research Scientist at the Center for Urban Environmental Research and Education (CUERE)
What:
Consideration for hydrologic characteristics of urban soils can aid in the orthodox SWM focus on impervious runoff & urbanization.

Who:
Alice Volpitta - Baltimore Harbor Waterkeeper, Blue Water Baltimore
What:
Blue Water Baltimore works in watersheds across Baltimore County and Baltimore City, 194 sq. mi. & 454 mi. of stream, effecting >1 million residents. Threats to the quality of the water come from sewage, polluted storm runoff, toxic pollution, & general trash/litter.
Discuss the latest problems and related solutions facing Baltimore's water quality, including modern sampling & testing methods
Discover trends in public water health and contemporary maintenance.
Find out how you can help facilitate a healthy & productive harbor as a local.

What:
Redi-Rock Plant Tour
One integrated system with many solutions that features the use of giant concrete blocks (1,500 - 4,900 lb/block) to create taller gravity and sea walls with multiple batter options.
Offer stronger connection strength with our Positive Connection / MSE walls up to 60 feet and beyond (18+ meters tall).
Provide many engineered solutions that integrate within a single wall system: including anchoring, barriers, cantilevered CIP, combination gravity / MSE, flood wall CIP, freestanding, and revetment options.
Machine-placed system that speeds up the installation process--using a wet-cast, first purpose concrete with a minimum of 4,000 psi and a freeze-thaw rating for greater durability and a longer life span.
